Back to the Beginning: Hannah's Journey Back to the USA, Where Her Therapeutic Path Began

Not many people know this about me, but I started my career 18 years ago at a children's residential summer camp in the USA.

What can I say? I absolutely loved every second of it! The camp's motto is ‘the three C’s,’ building confidence, competence, and community. All technology was and is still banned because it's all about children learning to go back to basics - how to have fun, play,  socialise and communicate with one another in other ways than through a phone.

What do I love the most?

Watching the way the children start their journey and then the way they end it with a bounce in their step - remembering that life is all about friendship, connection, fun, and learning.

So, as we hit mid-summer, I head back to the States to support my Colleagues/ family of 18 years, where it all began, on this journey of training and supporting staff, along with just playing and connecting with children, as after all, that is why I do what I do. Allowing my inner child to come out and play whilst supporting others to bring theirs out.

So, what are my biggest takeaways from my work in the USA? That they do 'play' on another level. It is the key focus in everything they do to help aid children's development. It is something that I am super grateful for that they taught me early and really has aided my entire career.
