We wanted to create some video content for parents, carers, and professionals to help you understand that having PACE-FUL conversations isn’t about acting as a 'therapist', but about meeting your child with acceptance, curiosity, empathy, and playfulness in a way that suits them best—whether through everyday, organic conversations or more planned interactions. Using PACE isn’t just about the words we say; it also involves being mindful of our body language—are we open and engaged? Are we using active listening? It's important to put away phones, laptops, and turn off TVs so we can be present and fully engaged with the child. However, there may be times when your child feels more comfortable having these distractions in the room, as they may find comfort in having them nearby, helping them feel safe and taking the focus off them.
Being PACE-FUL is about embracing your child’s internal world with acceptance and without judgement. It’s about truly listening to their experiences and, at times, deepening our own curiosity alongside them, especially during moments of struggle and challenge. When things get tough, we often find that playfulness and fun are the first things to disappear, but this is precisely what helps rebuild the connection.
We hope these videos help you see that being PACE-FUL isn’t daunting and that it can look just like an everyday chat!
